The ACA WA Branch are fortunate enough to have a number of multitalented corrosionists in our midst, such as husband and wife couple (Allison and Chris Selman) who have created a short film on one of our other very talented, dedicated and knowledgeable members – Dr Ian MacLeod. The film is entitled “The Wreck Man – A life in decay driven by a passion to discover the lost stories of shipwrecks”and tells the story of Ian’s career, through the stories of the wrecks he has explored. History lessons, detective stories, ghost stories, war stories and the fight against a coming environmental disaster are all told in Dr Macleod’s inimitable and passionate way. The WA Branch have been given the opportunity of showing this short film to our members. Guests will have the opportunity to converse with Dr MacLeod on the work he has performed throughout his life in relation to the conservation of marine wrecks, as well as hear from Allison and Chris on the making of the film and the Major Projects Foundation set up to protect some of these wrecks from further degradation.

The NZ Branch of the ACA is excited to announce that we are partnering with the SESOC to present a corrosion stream at the upcoming conference. This will be the sixth New Zealand Conference Hosted by SESOC and will be a premiere event for structural engineers and anyone with an interest in the built environment.

The theme of this year’s conference is “A New Beginning”. It is 10 years since the Christchurch Earthquake Sequence, an event that significantly changed Structural Engineering in New Zealand. Further challenges to the engineering profession have emerged in 2020 with the post-Covid 19 environment requiring us to explore new ways of delivering services and adaptive working methods for the future.
