Event Update: 25/05/2021
Please be aware that due to recent COVID developments in Victoria, we have cancelled in-person attendance for this event.
We will continue with online attendance only.
Event Description
We’re incredibly excited to announce our Association’s Annual General Meeting, with a special guest presentation from Tom Honeyands, Director of the Iron Ore Hub and co-Director of the Centre for Ironmaking Materials Research. Tom will be joining us virtually to discuss his experience with Hydrogen Ironmaking. This will be the first AGM held under the leadership of The ACA’s new board of directors and will be a great opportunity to hear from the newly elected ACA Board Chair Dean Ferguson and ACA General Manager Ross Boucher about the state of our association, the year we’ve had and our plans for the future.
Event Schedule
5:30 pm – 6:15 pm – Hydrogen Ironmaking – Lessons From The Past And Challenges For The Future
Guest Presenter – Tom Honeyands (University of Newcastle)
Associate Professor Tom Honeyands is Director of the Iron Ore Hub, and co-Director of the Centre for Ironmaking Materials Research. He is a metallurgical specialist with more than 30 years of experience in consulting, research and process engineering. In his current role, he is responsible for leading the Hub, and for research in the end-use of iron ores in iron and steelmaking.
Presentation Overview
Hydrogen reduction of iron ores is very topical at present, with lots of national and international interest in the production of “green steel”, but it is not a new idea. BHP operated the FINMET direct reduced iron plant in Port Hedland from 1999 to 2004, which utilised hydrogen from reformed natural gas. This talk will cover learnings from the FINMET operation, current research into the use of hydrogen in the blast furnace and some of the challenges for corrosion specialists. This presentation will be of interest to engineers, asset owners, industry associates & applicators and we encourage all our members to join us either online or in person for this exciting lecture.
6:15 pm – 7:30 pm – Annual General Meeting
The second portion of our evening will be our Associations Annual General Meeting, including a report from ACA Chair Dean Fergusson and General Manager Ross Boucher. You can view the AGM Notice, Meeting Agenda and flyer below, Annual Report on and the 2020 Minutes for confirmation TBA.
If you’re unable to attend the AGM, we’d appreciate it if you could complete and submit a proxy form by the 24th of May, so we can ensure we reach a quorum.
