    6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

The ACA WA Branch is thrilled to invite you to our next Branch Technical Evening focusing on Corrosion Under Insulation. We’ll be joined by two fantastic guest speakers, Dr Thunyaluk (Kod) Pojtanabuntoeng will speak on some of the Recent Developments in CUI Research from Curtin Corrosion Centre and joining us Remotely from the UK, Dr Prafull Sharma, Chief Technology Officer of CorrosionRADAR will join us to discuss Corrosion Under Insulation Risk Analytics with Monitoring Systems using Electro-Magnetic Guided Radar (EMGR). Earlier this year, CorrosionRADAR won the Materials Performance (MP) / Association for Materials Protection and Performance (formerly NACE) Corrosion Innovation of the Year Award for its ground-breaking Predictive Corrosion Under Insulation (CUI) Monitoring System – a next generation technology solution that is transforming the global response to the enormous industrial challenges created by CUI.

Join us from 6 pm for Networking and Nibbles before this not to be missed event!

Guest Presenters

Dr Prafull Sharma –  Chief Technology Officer, CorrosionRADAR

Prafull Sharma currently serves as Chief Technology Officer of UK based CorrosionRADAR Ltd which is bringing innovative corrosion monitoring technologies using Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT). CorrosionRADAR invented a predictive CUI monitoring system which is gaining global traction addressing a big issue for the industry. Prafull Sharma brings vast industrial experience especially in digitalisation of corrosion management on which there are several inventions to his credit. Prior to his current role, Prafull worked for General Electric R&D where he developed several sensing and NDT technologies. Prafull obtained his PhD from Cranfield University UK. He has over fifteen years experience in industrial technology development specially for asset integrity and automation in the Oil & Gas industry. He is also credited with over fifteen international patents and innovations.

Presentation – Corrosion Under Insulation Risk Analytics with Monitoring Systems using Electro-Magnetic Guided Radar (EMGR)

CUI continues to be a challenge to the integrity of process, chemical, power and other industrial plants. As this corrosion is not visible due to insulation and moisture can stay in the insulation for long periods, corrosion under insulation (CUI) is difficult to detect and locate. A number of NDT systems have been in use for CUI inspection with varying degrees of success depending on applications. The industry still spends a huge amount of their maintenance budget on routinely opening up the insulation to inspect the pipes and equipment.

Risk Based Inspection (RBI) is used to optimize the inspection plan but this is usually inefficient for CUI in critical assets where either over-inspection or under-inspection scenarios exist. In this presentation, Dr Sharma will discuss A Risk Monitoring system using Electro-Magnetic Guided Radar (EMGR). This technology involves use of sensors embedded in the insulation and a data logger transmits data wirelessly to a central server. Risk analysis and localization for CUI risk severity are then accessed by the end user to help optimize CUI inspection plan. This provides important data for asset managers to plan, schedule and target their efforts. This presentation will describe in more detail the principles of the technique and recent case studies from various deployments.

Dr. Thunyaluk Pojtanabuntoeng – Senior Lecturer, Curtin Corrosion Centre

Dr Thunyaluk (Kod) Pojtanabuntoeng is a Senior Lecturer at the Curtin Corrosion Centre, WASM-MECE, and the corrosion education lead. She is currently working with industry partners on corrosion under insulation (CUI) and has an interest in innovative strategies in controlling CUI. Kod also specialises in internal corrosion in the upstream oil and gas production, corrosion monitoring using electrochemical methods both in fields and in laboratory, surface and chemical characterization methods. She has been principal investigators for many industry-funded research projects relating to failure analysis, corrosion and corrosion management predominantly in the oil and gas industry.

Presentation – Lab to Field – Recent Development in CUI Research

Corrosion under insulation continues to be a recurring and expensive problem to the industry. The presentation will discuss the learnings and potential practical applications from our multifaceted CUI research; such as thermal ageing of insulation materials, methodology development for CUI coatings evaluation and CUI monitoring using electrochemical noise technique. Research gaps and future direction will be highlighted and discussed.

6:00 – 6.45 pm: Networking Drinks and Nibbles

6.45 – 8:00 pm: Presentations
