5:00 pm - 7:30 pm
This event has now been rescheduled for October 28 and due to ongoing restrictions outside of Auckland restricting access for some NZ members, the AGM portion of this event will no longer take place.
The ACA NZ branch is excited to invite you all to our first in-person event since the COVID-19 pandemic. We will be joined by guest Speaker Stewart Hobbs, a professional engineer and the Principal of ProConsult Ltd based in Remuera, Auckland, to discuss Durability Deficiencies Found in Building Construction.
The late 1980s gave rise to an unfortunate era in New Zealand construction – the leaky building syndrome. Some of these problems are perpetuated by inadequate design and others are a consequence of poor construction practice. These deficiencies continue to cost NZ hundreds of millions of dollars every year.
The presentation provides some examples of common durability issues that recur in building construction and examines feasible solutions to these durability issues. Potential issues include crack control in concrete, poor nib designs, disparity between thermally different elements, inadequate protection of, or poor quality, reinforcing steel and in many cases a lack of understanding of necessary protection for structural steelwork.
Stewart will draw on his current experience with building durability and provides some pragmatic solutions to potentially avoidable durability problems.
