6:00 pm - 7:30 pm
The Round Table Conference is the Victorian Branch’s Premier social event, running for over 40 years. This year we are very fortunate to have well known ACA stalwart Ted Riding giving a presentation on advances in coating technologies. We are also lucky to again have the opportunity for everyone from across the ACA to be able to attend, with the Round Table Conference this year to be held as an online meeting. So, in the spirit of the event please feel free to prepare your favourite snacks and drinks, pull up a screen and enjoy the company of fellow corrosionists and their partners for an enjoyable online event. You will see details of an option below to consider for dinner to accompany the presentation.
6 pm (AEDT), 23 rd of February (online)
The invention in Australia of inorganic zinc silicate primers in the 1930’s revolutionized protective coatings with a genuinely long-term protective coating that could be applied to complex steel structures. Some of the earliest uses were over-ambitious and the industry quickly realized the practical limitations and the target structures and service conditions became readily identified. The initial invention was water based and so was limited by humid or cold ambient conditions that restricted water evaporation in reasonably quick time a solvent based version was introduced to cater for this but this came with limitations where moisture was limited. The modern coatings world is also facing significant commercial pressures and, in this context, both versions of inorganic zinc silicate coatings are being further “pushed”. This discussion will present an example from both versions where the limitations related to ambient conditions were exposed when these limitations were not fully appreciated.
Ted Riding is a graduate of Sydney University in Chemical Engineering. He has been employed in the corrosion control industry for over 40 years. Originally employed by Dimet he has held positions related to the development, manufacture and application of protective coatings. Ted is currently certified for inspection of protective coatings by FROSIO (Level 3) and NACE (Level 3) for inspection of protective coatings. Ted is also certified for inspection of Hot Dip Galvanizing by the Australasian Corrosion Association and inspection of Coatings on Concrete by SSPC. Ted is an Instructor for NACE International, FROSIO and the Australasian Corrosion Association. Currently Ted is employed by Jotun Australia as Technical Manager and is based in Melbourne.
One potential option to consider for a meal to accompany the presentation is Dinner on the Table (www.dinneronthetable.com.au/collections) which can be pre-ordered prior to the event. “Dinner on the Table is a social enterprise catering company, gifting meals to families living with disability. With every meal you buy and every event you invite us to cater, you are also helping vulnerable families by putting dinner on their tables”. You will need to order these at your own leisure and arrange for your delivery.
