The Department of Infrastructure, Energy and Resources, Tasmania, (DIER) is responsible, as part of its overall responsibility for managing the State’s road network, for the management of over 1200 bridges, major culverts, retaining walls and sign gantries with a replacement cost of approximately $1.5B.

The average age of the bridge infrastructure is 42 years, with the nature of the asset shown in figures 1 and 2.

The focus of this discussion is on concrete bridges.
